Do you still eat processed foods and by that I mean food that has an ingredient listing? My advice until a short time ago was to avoid anything that had ingredients that you didn't know what they were.
Wow. This book has changed all of that.
Have you heard of clean labelling? The food industry knows we are becoming more savy and so they are finding loop holes to rename the items we were avoiding. Joanna Blythman is a Scottish lady and her insider knowledge is truly eye opening. Her new book Swallow This is well worth reading.
Did you know that the bakery department in your Iocal store is more often than not just a reheating and browning department? The items are cooked miles away, frozen and then finished off in an oven by a "baker". Doing it this way not only encourages more sales - now don't you just love the smell of fresh bread? What it also means is that the shop doesn't have to have a label on the item, letting you know what is inside it. But it is fresh bread so it must be natural, mustn't it???
Any number of chemicals can be used in the processing of your food but don't have to be listed if they are "removed" before packaging.
If you needed a reason to cook/prepare more of your own food then this book is it.
